Couple Jumps From Second Floor of Burning Maryland Home

A Maryland couple was forced to jump from a second floor window after a fire ripped through their Gaithersburg home early Thursday morning.

The fire was reported just before 5 a.m. on the 9200 block of Oriole Place. The couple was inside their second-floor bedroom with the door closed when the fire broke out, and fire officials say the closed door may have saved their lives.

Troy Lipscomb, the couple's son, says he was at a neighbor's house when his childhood home was destroyed.

"I've lived here my entire life," Lipscomb said. "Having our lives is always better than losing our house."

The couple was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A firefighter was also taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation, fire officials say.

The intense flames caused the home to partially collapse.
