2 Dead After Falls Church Shooting

Apparent murder-suicide at Eden Center

Police in Falls Church are investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide at Eden Center Saturday evening.

Two men were found by police after they were called to the scene on Wilson Boulevard, investigators said. Paramedics pronounced both men dead, saying that one had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The other, 49-year-old Tai Thi Phan, was shot about 10 p.m. Saturday as he stepped out of his car, News4's Julie Carey reported. He ran and was chased and shot again, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Within in an hour police learned of an apparently injured man in a car in the parking lot. Investigators determined 39-year-old The Vu apparently shot himself. He was pronounced dead by paramedics.

Phan and Vu were shot with the same caliber gun, police said. They are trying to determine if it was the same gun.

Phan was at Eden Center to join his band for their regular Saturday night gig there. His friend Viet Nguyen, a restaurant owner, told Carey he doesn't know any motive for someone to shoot Phan.

Last year, a police gang task force carried out a high-profile raid at Eden Center, making arrests for alleged illegal gambling.

An investigation into what precipitated the shootings is ongoing. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call the City of Falls Church Police Department at (703) 248-5053.
