19-Year-Old Killed in DC's 1st Fatal Shooting of 2018

A 19-year-old man was shot and killed in Southeast D.C., police said, marking the first fatal shooting of the year.

Police responded to the 2400 block of Skyland Place about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after reports of gunshot sounds.

Officers found the victim, Paris Brown, unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Fire and EMS officials found no signs consistent with life, police said.

Brown's body was taken to the medical examiner's office, police said.

Police believe the shooter used a handgun, according to a police report.

Brown is the victim of D.C.'s first fatal shooting in 2018. Another teenager, 17-year-old James Colter, died Sunday after being shot on Dec. 9, 2016 in Northeast D.C., police said. Colter's death is considered the first homicide of the year.

Police are offering a reward to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest and conviction.
