An 18-year-old man was killed in Fauquier County, Virginia, Monday night.
Deputies went to the 5000 block of Old Auburn Road in Warrenton for a reported injury shortly before 10:45 p.m. Authorities said they found Lincoln Williams Jr. with an apparent gun shot wound.
He was returning to his family's home when he was shot outside. He made his way inside, which is when his family called police.
They provided first aid and CPR to the victim, but his condition deteriorated, and he was pronounced dead not long after arriving at the emergency room.
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office and Virginia State Police are investigating the case as a homicide. They have not said if they found a weapon.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death, they said.
It appears Williams was targeted, according to the sheriff's office.
No information on a suspect was immediately released.
Williams attended Kettle Run High School before being homeschooled.
“I can’t understand why someone would do this to him," a friend told News4 in a statement. "He was a genuine guy. He will be missed.”
