A 17-year-old boy working alongside his dad for his family's business was killed in a hit-and-run in Northern Virginia on Saturday, and police are still looking for the driver.
Adrian Iraheta was finishing a job sealing an asphalt driveway in Gainesville early Saturday morning when a light-colored sedan sped right at him. The teenager was thrown into the air. The driver sped off, and Iraheta was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homeowner Byron Martinez spoke with Iraheta's father after the tragedy.
"I called his dad and he said, 'They killed my son. Somebody struck my son, and he's dead,'" Martinez recalled the father saying.
Iraheta went to church on Friday and then helped his father with the family's paving business. They often worked at night because cooler temperatures made for better conditions.
Iraheta and his father were finishing work on the driveway in the area of Sudley and Catharpin roads when the crash occurred about 2:30 a.m.
They were putting their tools away in a pickup that was facing the wrong way on Sudley Road. The headlights and flashers were on, but they saw a car coming toward them.

Fearing a collision, Iraheta and his father jumped out of the truck. The father jumped into the yard. Iraheta jumped into the street.
"I guess the driver kind of jerked his wheel right at the last second, and as the son was jumping into the street, he hit him," Martinez recalled the father saying.
Security camera footage shows a car briefly slowing down and then taking off.
Investigators are looking for a white Chrysler 300. It's a 2005 to 2010 model that likely will have damage to the front, on the driver's side.
The Iraheta family is raising money for funeral expenses.
Martinez asked for help.
"They're a hard-working family. He's a really good kid," he said.
