A 16-year-old boy was shot in the butt and back on Friday afternoon in northeast D.C.
Police received the call of a shooting in the 1900 block of 3rd Street NE about 4:10 p.m.
Friends at the scene said the victim was walking home from Dunbar High School about a mile away. He may not have been the intended target, police said.
The shooter was described as a male, wearing all black, who left the scene in a black vehicle with another person. Police tweeted that a dark gray or black Honda with Virginia license plates may be connected to the shooting.
A visibly upset friend of the victim said he didn't know why anyone would shoot him.
The teen was conscious and alert when he was taken to a hospital.
As police talked to people in the area, they found a male with a semi-automatic handgun and took him into custody. Police said he was not connected to the shooting.
