Police: Off-Duty Officer Shoots Would-Be Robber in D.C.

Police have identified the man accused of trying to rob an off-duty officer in southeast Washington Tuesday morning.

The female officer was in the 1600 block of 18th Street SE at around 7 a.m. when she was approached by a man who said he was going to rob her. Assistant Chief of Police Mike Anzallo said the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Marcus Young of southeast D.C., told the off-duty officer that he had a weapon. She then discharged her weapon, striking Young in the chest.

Police have charged Young with assault with intent to rob.

There's no word on his condition at this time. It's also unknown whether the suspect actually had a weapon.

The officer was not injured.
