Police say the driver responsible for a deadly crash on Suitland Parkway fled the scene on foot.
Witnesses told police the driver of the striking vehicle was speeding in the inbound lanes of Suitland Parkway when he struck a Chrysler 300 turning left onto Firth Sterling Avenue. Police say the crash happened at about midnight Friday.
The driver and a passenger in the striking vehicle tried to flee the scene, but police say the passenger was taken into custody a short distance away.
"He didn't make it far because of his injuries. He had a weapon on him...but he's not the driver we're looking for," said Lt. Ronald Wilkins with the Metropolitan Police Department.
A third person in the striking vehicle was injured and transported to an area hospital.
Police say four people were traveling in the Chrysler. One of the passengers died at a local hospital. The other three are being treated at a local hospital.
