1 Found Dead in Fairfax County House Fire

One person was found dead after a house fire in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County, Virginia, late Monday.

The fire began about 9:15 p.m. in the two-story single-family home, located in the 3400 block of Elmwood Drive in a neighborhood just south of the Capital Beltway and west of Telegraph Road.

Fairfax County fire officials said everyone else in the house was able to get out before firefighters arrived, but one person was unaccounted for and was later found dead. Five people, including a firefighter, were taken to local hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening.

"The source is currently unknown. Due to the heavy volume of fire that was present when we got here, it's going to take the investigators quite some time to determine where the fire cause was," said a fire official.

The name of the person who died has not yet been released.
