A man was found dead after a two-alarm fire in a Northern Virginia apartment complex early Monday.
Fairfax Fire and Rescue units responded to the fire at a garden-style apartment building in the 13600 block of Bent Tree Circle in Centreville about 1 a.m. The fire gutted a portion of the building.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze, the body of 60-year-old David Zimmers was found inside an apartment.
Some residents credited their neighbors for alerting them to the fire.
Firefighters were still spraying down hot sports about 5:30 a.m. to ensure that the blaze did not reignite.
Thirty residents were displaced from 13 units. The owners of the apartments said most of the displaced residents are being moved into other available apartments in the community while one is moving to another of the owners' communities nearby.
Residents will be allowed back into their homes after its determined to be safe to enter the building.

One resident of the complex said she heard screaming, opened her window and saw flames.
"That's so scary because when you're just sleeping, you're waking up and smelling this burn and ... you're opening the window and can see the fire coming to your room," said resident Diane Wa. "That just, I cannot explain."
