1 Found Dead After Fire at Fairfax County Home

One person was found dead after a fire at a small rental home in Fairfax County, Virginia, authorities say.

Firefighters rushed to the scene in the 6600 block of Pine Road just off Braddock Road in the Annandale area about 10:15 p.m. When they arrived, they found flames coming from a two-story single-family home, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said.

Several people in the house were able to escape before firefighters arrived. One person who was initially unaccounted for was later found dead inside the home, officials said. Their identity hasn't been released.

In videos, the home appears to be a red brick building with white-framed windows. Damage to the roof and side of the house can be seen from the street.

Fairfax County police scoured the home for evidence throughout the day Tuesday.

Neighbor Geoff Greene said he heard sirens and counted about 13 fire trucks that wrapped around the corner.

"It's a pretty, it's a tragic event," Greene said. "Just back there, we could see some smoke rising from the back of the house," Greene said.

Residents of the home, returned in the morning to get some of their belongings. One of those residents told News4 they have other roommates that live in the home. The exact number has yet to be confirmed.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
