Prince George's County police said an accidental shooting led to the death of a man in Brandywine, Md., Thursday morning.
He has been identified as Errick Lamar Pratt, 23, of Fort Washington.
Officers received a call around 1:35 a.m. to a home in the 18700 block of Croom Road, where they found Pratt suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
"It's an unexpected tragedy," Pratt's aunt told News4.
Police said that a preliminary investigation indicates Pratt was shot accidentally.
"This group [of five] was playing around with a gun and that gun went off and tragically, it hit the 23-year-old man in the head," police spokesperson Julie Parker said.
The crime scene is a large, farmhouse belonging to Tony and Cynthia Brazelton, a prominent, religious family in the area.
Authorities are speaking with the friends and family members who were in the home at the time to piece together what happened. No charges have been filed at this time.
Police have not released information on the shooter.
The scene is located in a rural area, with the home sitting at the end of a long driveway off the main roadway.
