Man Dies in Tent Fire at Rockville Homeless Camp

A man was found dead following a tent fire at an apparent makeshift homeless camp in Rockville.

Montgomery County detectives are investigating the death as a homicide.

Shortly after midnight Thursday, officers and fire personnel responded to a wooded area in the 5400 block of Randolph Road.

They arrived to find a tent fully engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire, they found the body of a man who had been in the fire.

Officials say the tent was with several abandoned vehicles at what appeared to be a homeless encampment.

The victim's identity has not been confirmed, police said. His body will be taken to Baltimore for an autopsy.

Police said the investigation is still in the early stages, and more information will be released as it is confirmed.
