Manager Shot in Apparent Rite Aid Robbery Attempt

Police searching for possible gunman

A store manager was shot Friday afternoon in an apparent robbery attempt at a Rite Aid store in northeast Washington.

Police said the victim was shot in the back just before 12:30 p.m. Friday at the store located on the 1400 block of Rhode Island Avenue NE.

Police are looking for an black male in his late 40s who was last seen wearing a white baseball cap, a red sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The man spent some time in the store before pulling out the gun. After the shooting, he fled, and police blocked streets and used K-9 and helicopter support to search for the shooter, but no one has been arrested.

The victim was in surgery Friday afternoon.
