1 Dead After Quantico Apartment Fire

One person has died following an apartment fire in Quantico, Virginia. 

Fire and rescue crews from Marine Base Quantico responded to the second-floor apartment fire on Broadway Street at 7:20 a.m. Thursday. 

The fire marshal says firefighters rescued two people from the home and treated five people at the scene. The mayor of the town of Quantico said the man who died was bedridden, News4's Meagan Fitzgerald reported.

When firefighters searched the home, they found one person dead. The people who were rescued were treated at the scene for injuries that are not life-threatening. 

The cause of the fire is not known at this time. 

The fire appears to be contained, Marine Base Quantico said on Twitter. 

Police and fire officials say they are conducting a joint investigation.

The town of Quantico sits on the Potomac River in southern Prince William County, completely surrounded by Marine Corps Base Quantico. The town has a population of 480.
