Study: Women With Migraines May Be at Risk for Brain Damage

More migraines, bigger risk

Women who suffer frequent migraines may have an increased risk for brain damage, according to a new study.

Researchers compared the MRIs of a group of women who suffered migraines to those without the headaches. They found women with migraines had abnormalities in several regions of the brain, especially if they had more than three per month.

Women who had been suffering migraines for more than 15 years had the worst brain changes of the group.

Researchers said they want to conduct more studies looking at the brain before and after migraines.
