Ruby Walks Across DC

Reality TV star brings her battle with weight to the capital

WASHINGTON -- Fans of Style's weight-loss star Ruby Gettinger already got to know the sweet, sassy 500-pound Savannah resident on her intimate hit reality series "Ruby" in November. Now, they can join her fight.

The new face of the obesity epidemic has taken her anti-obesity campaign on the road with "Ruby's Walk Across America" world tour, and it comes to D.C. Saturday, free and open to the public.

“I am truly touched by the thousands of people who have reached out to me in support of my weight-loss journey,” Gettinger said. "I want to reach out to my supporters of all sizes and encourage them to leave the shadows of their homes and walk with me in the light --- sharing our stories and taking our first steps together towards a healthier future.”

Gettinger wants to raise awareness about obesity, stressing the importance of exercise in weight loss and encouraging walking as a fun, easy and affordable option. She also hopes to get people out of their homes and exercising and to inspire people others to start walking events in their communities.

Saturday's event takes place at Copley Lawn at Georgetown University at 37 and O streets in Northwest. Click here for more information.

The new season of "Ruby" begins July 5 at 8 p.m. on The Style Network.
