Pistachios Recalled Due to Salmonella Outbreak

The pistachios were sold nationwide and in Canada under the brand names Wonderful, Paramount Farms and Trader Joe's.

Wonderful Pistachios voluntarily recalled on March 10 a limited number of flavors and sizes of in-shell and shelled pistachios that are sold nationwide after a salmonella outbreak.

Eleven people in nine states were infected with the outbreak strain of salmonella montevideo linked to the nuts, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The states involved were Connecticut, Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Virginia and Washington, The Associated Press reported. Two people have been hospitalized.

Salmonella is an organism that causes abdominal pain, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), fever and vomiting.

The pistachios were sold across the country and in Canada under the brand names Wonderful, Paramount Farms and Trader Joe's.

California-based Wonderful Pistachios said the products being recalled have a 13-digit lot code, which can be found on the lower back or bottom panel of the package.

Consumers who purchased the affected pistachios may return them to Wonderful Pistachios for a refund by sending the back or bottom portion of the package that contains the lot code to: Wonderful Pistachios, 13646 Hwy 33, Lost Hills, CA 93249.

Consumers can also return the product to the store from which it was purchased for a refund or contact 844-505-3844.

More information is available on the FDA website.
