Although mosquitoes have tested positive for the West Nile virus in the District, there haven't been any confirmed human cases, a D.C. health department official told The Associated Press.
There have been more than 240 cases of West Nile this year, including four deaths. This is the highest number of cases since the summer of 2004, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Officials warn residents to take extra precautions to safeguard against the disease. The best way to prevent mosquito bites is to wear insect repellent and remove any standing water, where mosquitoes like to nest, outside your home.
