After years of debate, Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md., won approval to move ahead with its expansion plan.
The Montgomery County Board of Appeals approved the 300,000-square-foot expansion Wednesday. It will include a patient-care wing with private rooms, 15 replacement operating rooms, office space and a parking garage.
“This is great news for Suburban’s patients and the future of health care in our region," a hospital spokesperson said. "We look forward to moving ahead with the next steps of this project.”
A neighborhood group fought the expansion because one block of Lincoln Street will have to be closed.
The expansion is expected to cost $230 million.
