2 Va. Students Diagnosed With Meningitis

Two cases of meningitis have been confirmed in Caroline County, Va.

One student has viral meningitis and the other has bacterial meningitis, according to the Rappahannock Area Health District. The students attend Bowling Green Primary and Caroline Middle schools, the Free-Lance Star reported.

The exposure risk to other students is limited at best in the bacterial meningitis case, while there's no exposure risk in the viral meningitis case, health officials said.

Health and school officials are working to identify and treat others who may have been exposed.

Meningitis can be spread by human saliva or mucous.
