Va. Shifting to Alternative Fuel Vehicles

Surrounded by a fleet of vehicles powered by alternative fuels, Gov. Bob McDonnell has issued an executive order to shift Virginia's thousands of state vehicles to alternative fuels.

McDonnell signed the order Tuesday at the Office of Fleet Management Services in Richmond. He also promoted a new Virginia law that would allow retailers to provide more charging locations for electric vehicles.

McDonnell's executive order requires that a plan to move the state's fleet of vehicles be completed for his review and approval by Jan. 1.

The governor said it makes sense for Virginia to shift to fuels such as biodiesel, electric and other mixes to reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil.
