Arlington County is considering taking a position to ban plastic bags.
In Maryland, Baltimore and Annapolis rejected proposed bans.
Next month, the Arlington County Board is expected to formally adopt a position to ban plastic bags. The Virginia General Assembly will then have to decide on a bill that would allow counties to do that.
A similar proposal was made during this year's General Assembly, but the bill never made it out of committee.
