Scoop: Bacon Moving on After Madoff Losses

Star won't dwell on Ponzi scam costs

Kevin Bacon and his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, fell victim to disgraced money manager Bernard Madoff’s alleged Ponzi scheme. Now Bacon, for the first time, is speaking out about his losses.

“There are a lot of things I’m grateful for: my health, my family, my career, my family's health," Bacon told Life & Style magazine. “We'll march on. We have to. There’s nothing you can do about it. You can't change what happened. Things could be worse. You remember that, and you go on with your life.”

Bacon said his first priority is to get back to work, so that he and his family can start rebuilding what they've lost. Bacon is currently appearing in “Frost/Nixon,” and last summer shot “My One and Only” opposite Renee Zellweger.

"I don't have anything lined up right now, but I need to work, for obvious reasons," Bacon said.

Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Eric Roth, who wrote “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” also lost money with Madoff.

Tony Romo may pop the question
Anyone who watched “Newlyweds” knows that that a happy relationship with Jessica Simpson means a good relationship with her father Joe.

Simpson’s boyfriend, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, is doing well in the category, perhaps well enough that he’ll pop the question soon.

Us Weekly reports that Romo and Simpson, who began dating in November 2007, dined with Joe and mom Tina Jan. 7 at their Encino home. The next day, Romo and Joe hit L.A.’s Studio City Golf Course.

“Tony is better than Joe, but they were laughing a lot,” Us reports.

Later that day, Romo played tennis with Simpson family friend (and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz’s ex) Ryan Cabrera, and that night he cuddled with his girlfriend at Bar Delux (her sister was there, too!).

With Romo finally so tight with the entire family, could an engagement be far behind?

“They are getting there,” says a source, adding that Romo will ask Joe for permission. “They will announce it when it happens. They will want everyone to know!”

Swayze’s mom says he’s upbeat
Patrick Swayze’s mom, choreographer Patsy Swayze, is speaking out about her son’s health for the first time.

She says that despite her son’s pneumonia, Patrick remains “upbeat and positive.”

Swayze, who has pancreatic cancer, checked into the hospital for treatment of pneumonia Jan. 9.

His mother said to Us Weekly, "We don't talk about illness when I talk to him. He hasn't even been there a week!"

Swayze’s new A&E police drama, “The Beast,” premieres Jan. 15.

Another 'Grey's' goodbye
Jan. 13 was Melissa George’s last day of work at “Grey’s Anatomy,” reports Entertainment Weekly’s Dave Karger.

Karger says that shortly after the Golden Globes, George, who was nominated for her work on “In Treatment” and plays the flirtatious and mutilation-prone doctor Sadie, told him that she wants to “do something else.”

What that will be isn’t certain, but Karger says that her departure will be more ceremonious than the one the very talented Brooke Smith received when her character, Dr. Erica Hahn, was written out of the show.

According to George, “it won’t be a big send-off, but it’s really cool what they do.”
