A news app will launch on Wednesday in the U.S. with 20 of the country’s largest newspaper and magazine publishers jumping on as partners, according to NBC News.
Blendle, created by journalist-turned-entrepreneur, Alexander Klöpping, is partnering with The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Condé Nast and will be available to a select group of 10,000 users.
The app runs ad-free, and is aimed at a younger audience that is used to paying for music and movies on Spotify and Netflix. Newspaper stories will average $0.19 to $0.39 per article and magazine stories will run between $0.09 and $0.49.
"What Spotify became for music, what Netflix became for movies, we try to be for journalism," Klöpping told NBC News. "Our success in Holland and in Germany shows that people will pay for quality journalism if you take out the hassle and give them the best selection of articles in one place."
Blendle debuted in April 2014 and has amassed 650,000 users.
