BWI Airport Ranks High in Customer Service

J.D Power and Associates conducts survey on airport customer service

Talk about flying the friendly skies -- or not. The D.C. area boasts three major airports in the region, but only one of them is nationally ranked in the top 10 for customer satisfaction, according to a new survey.

The ranking comes courtesy of J.D. Power and Associates. It names Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport as seventh in medium-sized airports.

More than 12,000 passengers who took a round-trip flight last year participated. Six different factors were taken into account: airport accessibility, baggage claim, the check-in/baggage claim process, terminal facilities, security check and food/retail services.

Baltimore received ratings of “better than most” in all six categories.

Two of our area’s other airports didn’t fare quite as well. Reagan National Airport came in 16th while Washington Dulles International Airport was close behind in 18th place.

Kansas City International was rated best. The survey set medium sized airports at 10 million to 30 million passengers.

Detroit’s Metropolitan Wayne County came in first among large airports. Indianapolis International was also ranked first but in the small airport category.
