Toddler Dead in Prince George's Shooting Incident

A 2-year-old boy died after a shooting incident Monday night, according to Prince George's County police.

The boy, identified by police as Davion Prince, apparently got hold of a gun and shot himself in the head on Monday night in Oxon Hill, Md., police said.

He was taken to Children's Hospital in critical condition, but did not survive.

A 911 caller reported about 8 p.m. Monday that a boy had been shot in the 6200 block of Oxon Hill Road. Cpl. Evan Baxter, a police spokesman, said it was reported in the call "that the child shot himself in the head.''  The medical examiner was expected to make a report Tuesday.

Davion's mother heard the shot from another room, police said. It was not clear whether other people were also in the apartment at the time.

The investigation includes determining where the gun came from and who owned it.

Neighbors told News4 that the family had moved into the apartment within the past few weeks.
