Six Pedestrians Struck in Prince George's County Home Depot Parking Lot

Driver hospitalized after medical emergency

One person died after several were struck when a driver lost control in a Home Depot parking lot in Prince George's County Thursday afternoon.

Before 1:30 p.m., the driver of a Lincoln Town Car suffered a medical emergency in the lot in the 3300 block of East-West Highway in Hyattsville, Md., according to Hyattsville police.

His passenger tried to steer away from pedestrians, but the car struck six people standing on a grassy island before crashing into a wall surrounding the lot, according to Hyattsville police.

Prince George's County police have since taken over the investigation.

The six pedestrians were taken to area hospitals. Fredys Castillo-Giron, 41, of Hyattsville, died at a hospital. Another suffered life-threatening injuries.

The driver, a man in his 60s, also was taken to a hospital.

Day laborers are known to gather in the lot to look for work. The store was closed for the holiday.
