Victims of Accused Jaycee Kidnapper: “He's a Monster”

Ex-wife, past rape victim of man accused of kidnapping Dugard speak out

Past victims of the accused Jaycee Dugard kidnapper revealed chilling tales about the man who allegedly kidnapped an 11-year-old girl and kept her in a den of horrors as a sex slave for nearly two decades.

"He's a monster," Phillip Garrido's high school sweetheart and ex-wife said.

Speaking on "Inside Edition," ex Christine Murphy said he would go into a drug-addled rage when she refused to give in to his lust for multiple sex partners and one time tried to gouge her eyes out with a safety pin after another man flirted with her.

She tried to escape from Garrido, she said, but he found her and pulled her into his car.

Katherine Callaway Hall, a second victim, said Garrido raped her in the 1970s, handcuffing and binding her before taking her to a Reno storage unit where she was assaulted.

In an interview with CNN's "Larry King" on Monday, she said she never felt normal and the trauma of her kidnapping is seared into her memory more than two decades later. She said she "couldn't even imagine" the pain Dugard was enduring.

"He had me for 8 hours," she said. "He had her for 18 years."

"For years, I walked around like a zombie. I had to tell everyone I met what had happened to me -- because I didn't feel like myself. It was as if I had to explain why I wasn't 'normal.'"

Garrido allegedly told Hall she was chosen because she was attractive.

Despite a 50-year federal sentence and a life term in Nevada for his crimes against Hall, Garrido was back on the streets in 11 years.

Garrido and his wife Nancy are being held in El Dorado County on charges that they kidnapped and raped Dugard, then held her captive at their Antioch, Calif., home for the past 18 years even as parole officers and police occasionally turned up at his house. Dugard, and two children fathered by Garrido, have been reunited with family.

In the kidnapping trial from more than three decades ago, Garrido said he would use LSD and cocaine as sexual stimulants that left him with strong rape desires, according to court papers.

He said he would frequently masturbate in public places like the "side of schools, grammar schools and high schools” and in his car while leering at girls as young as seven and 10, the AP reported.

"I have had this fantasy, and this sexual thing that has overcome me," he said. "I had this fantasy that was driving me to do this, inside of me; something that was making me want to do it without — no way to stop it."

Meanwhile, investigators said on Monday they found a bone fragment on the property next door to the Garridos’ Antioch home. They had been searching since the weekend for clues into a spate of prostitute killings in the 1990s.
