Fire Department Offers Fireworks Amnesty

Prince George's County wants to get fireworks off the streets

The Prince George’s County Fire Department wants you to be safe on the Fourth of July.  So they are offering amnesty to people who turn in their illegal fireworks.

Thousands of people are hurt and some killed each year in accidents involving the use of fireworks,  fire officials said.  Many incidents involve fireworks classified by the Department of Transportation as “consumer fireworks.”

The amnesty period runs from June 20 through July 20. You do not have to fear being arrested or fined for turning in the explosives. Those looking to take advantage of the program should call the fire department's operations center.

It is illegal for any person to manufacture, possess and/or discharge any fireworks in Prince George’s County.
