Fatal Crash Shuts Down Capital Beltway

The Capital Beltway was shut down due to a fatal crash on the Outer Loop in Beltsville, Md.

A man apparently was changing a tire on the left shoulder when he was struck, said Mark Brady, of Prince George's County Fire and Rescue. That caused a chain-reaction crash.  A car fire followed the crash.

Three vehicles were involved, according to Maryland State Police.

The man who was changing his tire has died.

Two children suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Two people in their 30s also were injured.

All lanes have since reopened, but the crash stopped Beltway traffic for nearly an hour.
