SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A Sacramento bail bond service is putting up a $1,000 reward as part of the effort to find cyclist Lance Armstrong's time trial bike, which was stolen over the weekend in Sacramento.
Brian Montano of Atlantis Bail Bonds said his company is putting up the money in hopes of getting the bike back in time for the Amgen Tour of California time trial on Friday in Solvang. Armstrong's one-of-a-kind bike and a handful of others belonging to the Astana team were taken from a truck parked at the Residence Inn at 1501 L St.
Thousands of people lined the streets of downtown Sacramento on Saturday as riders competed in a prologue to kick off the annual Tour of California, which has drawn a field of the world's most talented cyclists. Riders on Tuesday were set to pedal from San Jose to Modesto. The race ends Sunday in Escondido.
Montano said he will give the reward to whomever returns the bike to the Atlantis office at 723 J St. The business is open 24 hours a day.
"I would just like to get this ordeal cleared up for Sacramento," he said.
Meanwhile, Sacramento police are also searching for the bike. Konrad Von Schoech, a police representative, remained "cautiously optimistic" Monday that Armstrong's bike would be found. And, he said, there's nothing that's led police to believe Armstrong's bike was targeted.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage, but they had not released it to the public as of Monday.
Armstrong himself has written about the loss of the bike on Twitter.
A Facebook group called 1 Million Citizens Looking for Lance Armstrong's Stolen Bike has also been set up.
