E-mails Can Write Themselves? Quit Foolin'

Have you ever wished that your e-mails could just write themselves? Google thought you might so the tech company released a new extension for its extremely popular Gmail program.

Haha, Fooled You. That Google. What a sense of humor.

Every year Google releases an April Fools' Day prank, and this year’s installment is a tease for lazy letter writers. It’s called "Google Autopilot by CADIE" and it purports to read your e-mails, analyze the message and respond in your voice. How nice would that be?

The hoaxsters at Google even took the prank to a logical conclusion saying that two e-mail accounts could communicate with one another, leaving humans completely out of the mix.

“Two Gmail accounts can happily converse with each other for up to three messages each,” the blog reads.  “Beyond that, our experiments have shown a significant decline in the quality ranking of Autopilot's responses and further messages may commit you to dinner parties or baby naming in which you have no interest.”

Google also messed with YouTube users this April Fools' Day.

They added a “new viewing experience” tab to videos in certain areas of the site such as “recommended for you” section. When users click on the link their videos flip upside-down.

Some of the company’s better pranks include a 2000 release of the “MentalPlex,” search engine technology that supposedly read the user’s mind.

In 2004 they claimed to have created an operating system to rival Microsoft Windows.

In 2005 they debuted “Google Gulp” a beverage that would increase the intelligence of whomever drank it. It was claimed this boost was achieved through real-time analysis of the user's DNA and carefully tailored adjustments to neurotransmitters in the brain.

In 2006 they launched their dating service, Google Romance and in 2007 they made up Gmail Paper, a service that would print your e-mails and mail them through the Post Office free of charge.

The tech company doesn’t joke only on April Fools' Day. Google jokesters work full time messing with their users’ minds. For more of Google’s hoaxes, like their Toilet Internet Service Provider and Google Pigeon Search check out this nice collection of jokes.
