The president took the first lady to dinner at Wolfgang Puck’s The Source (575 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W.) for her 47th birthday in 2011. The restaurant, inside the Newseum, serves Asian-inspired cuisine -- and it's a popular birthday spot, it seems. In June 2009, Michelle Obama hosted a 50th birthday bash for former White House social secretary Desirée Rogers there.

Obama popped into "Top Chef" alum Spike Mendelsohn's Good Stuff Eatery (303 Pennsylvania Ave. S.E.) the day before his birthday in 2011, to treat his staffers to lunch to thank them for their work during the debt ceiling negotiations. Michelle has also been to Good Stuff several times, where she sampled both burgers and homespun milkshakes. Michelle and the first daughters have tried the Obama burger, but Good Stuff tells us that Michelle's fave item is actually the Michelle Melt turkey burger. The Obamas are also rumored to have placed "secret" takeout orders here.

Michelle attended a dinner at Eatonville (2121 14th St. N.W.) on July 14, 2011 to celebrate a friend’s birthday. “It was a dream come true and an honor to have Michelle Obama here at Eatonville tonight for dinner,” the resto tweeted afterward. Earlier in the day, the president had told NBC4's Jim Vance that the first lady has enjoyed exploring what D.C. has to offer.

The first couple shared a quiet date night the night before Mother's Day 2011 at Ristorante Tosca (1112 F St. N.W.). The president sipped a martini, and Michelle Obama drank white wine. Washingtonian had rated Tosca #33 out of D.C.'s top 100 restaurants this year, noting: "The beige dining room is about as romantic as a boardroom." The magazine was kinder to the cooking though, writing, "The food has soul."
Sasha Obama may not have the cool Fourth of July birthday her big sis does, but the littlest Obama turned 10 with a party at Georgetown Cupcake on June 10, 2011.

The Obamas celebrated their wedding anniversaries in both 2010 and 2011 at Blue Duck Tavern (1201 24th St. N.W.). Due to Michelle's crusade to encourage healthy eating, it's fitting that this hot spot prides itself on using local, organic and sustainable ingredients. The couple married in October 1992.

Michelle Obama celebrated her 46th birthday in 2010 with a surprise dinner at the high-end Restaurant Nora (2132 Florida Ave. N.W.). While the first lady dined on a special lamb dish, the president enjoyed pan-seared Maine lobster and saffron risotto.
Equinox Restaurant
The year before, Michelle Obama celebrated her 45th birthday a day early on Jan. 16, 2009, by visiting the upscale Equinox (818 Connecticut Ave. N.W.) with her husband and 12 others.

While Komi (1509 17th St. N.W.) may be one of the most exclusive restaurants in D.C., consistently topping Best Restaurant lists, there's no problem getting a table if you’re the first couple. After sharing a romantic date night there in May 2010, Michelle Obama was spotted leaving the restaurant with her hubby, bouquet of flowers in hand. Awww.

On Father's Day 2009, Obama treated daughters Malia and Sasha to frozen custard at The Dairy Godmother (2310 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria). The president indulged in a cup of vanilla custard with hot fudge and toasted almonds. Sasha opted for a brownie sundae with vanilla custard, hot fudge and chocolate sprinkles, while Malia enjoyed a waffle cone with vanilla custard, said the shop owner. The Obamas left with puppy pops for First Dog Bo.

Obama visited Ben's Chili Bowl (1213 U St. N.W.) as president-elect with then-Mayor Adrian Fenty on Jan. 10, 2009, shortly after his arrival in Washington. After indulging in a chili half-smoke, chilli-topped French fries and iced tea, he was sold. Word on the street is that Obama is now quite the Ben's fan. And the eatery has graced Obama's seat with a special plaque.
Sasha Obama celebrated her ninth birthday on June 10, 2010 with a pizza party at the age-appropriate California Pizza Kitchen in Montgomery Mall (7101 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda). Rumor has it that Sasha, along with mom and sister Malia, enjoyed ice cream sundaes for dessert.
Art and Soul
Before heading to the Kennedy Center for the Celebration of Women in the Arts back in May 2009, Michelle Obama had dinner with nine friends at former Oprah chef and "Top Chef Masters" alum Art Smith's Art and Soul (415 New Jersey Ave. N.W.). They were seated in the restaurant’s private room, which houses a portrait of President Obama.

Early on in their time in D.C., the first couple enjoyed a date night at Michel Richard's Citronelle (3000 M St. N.W.), ordering matching martinis straight up, along with their meal, according to Politico.
