At least one record was broken at the 144th Run for the Roses — and no one was celebrating.
The National Weather Service declared it the wettest Derby on record, with an official rainfall total exceeding 2.83 inches.
Rain was still pouring as horses took their positions, and it was still coming down hard when Justify crossed the line for the win. Ankle-deep puddles were scattered around Churchill Downs, and the downpours sent Derby goers cowering for cover all day long.
