Think you've tasted every pumpkin spice product this fall? Think again.
Pumpkin spice pizza is kind of a big deal at a local Italian restaurant in New Jersey.
Nunzios Kitchen in Sayreville brought back pumpkin spice pizza in September for the fourth year in a row. The seasonal favorite is being served up through November.
Brothers Marco and Michael Colandera created the pumpkin-flavored pie to add to their list of other unique pizza offerings.
It begins with a handmade dough and pumpkin puree base. The pie is then topped with lightly fried zucchini, rich ricotta cheese and crispy walnuts. Baked in a 40-year-old stone oven, it's finished off with a sprinkle of powdered sugar for a sweet finish.
The family-owned restaurant has gained a reputation for cooking up unique pizza flavors each season using locally sourced fresh ingredients. So far, the brothers have created 102 pizza flavor variations, Marco said.
“Soon to come is a thanksgiving pizza which is out of this world,” he said. “Our customers come back because there's always something new to try.”
