Pay tribute to Michael Jackson at the 9:30 Club or Zodiac Lounge. 9:30 hosts MJ cover band Who's Bad. The first show is sold out, but there are still a few tickets floating around for the 11 p.m. Zodiac means a haul out to Gaithersburg, but it's worth it for a DJ spinning MJ hits all hit, MJ videos on a big screen, and an MJ dance contest. In case you haven't noticed, it's all about MJ tonight.
Drinking is cool and all -- but doing it for a good cause? Why, we like that even more! Doctors Without Borders, a nonprofit group that provides free medical care across the globe, is holding a Cocktails Without Borders fundraiser tonight at Josephine (1008 Vermont Ave. N.W.). Drink specials include $4 shooters, $5 bottles of beer, and $6 house cocktails and mango mojitos. The first 200 people in the door will receive a free glass of champagne. 6-11 p.m.; $20 at the door, $10 in advance.
Adams Morgan on a Friday night can sometimes be a disaster. And by "sometimes," we mean "usually." However, you can find an oasis in the mayhem with Qool DJ Uncle Q at Bourbon (2321 18th St. N.W.). The old school hip-hop dance party happens every Friday in the upstairs portion of this bar. Grab your friends and groove the night away to hip-hop classics from LL Cool J, Common and Biggie. 10 p.m.; no cover.
Today marks the seventh installment of Jazz in the Garden at the National Gallery of Art's Sculpture Garden (700 Constitution Ave. NW). If you havenโt been yet, we recommend you go today before the weather gets too hot, and suddenly listening to jazz while drinking sangria doesn't sound like fun anymore. The Junkyard Saints will bring the music; you bring a blanket and some friends. And as always, you can buy food and beverages from the garden's two food carts or the nearby cafe. 5-8:30 p.m.; free.
