A 47-year-old Montgomery Village woman is recovering Sunday after falling into a trench near her home, according to Montgomery County Fire Rescue.
The woman was walking her dog with family next to a trench at the Thomas Choice Garden Condominiums around 5:45 pm Sunday when the earth gave way below her. She fell six feet into the trench and was partially buried.
Fire and EMS officials could not rescue the woman until the walls of the trench were stabilized, so they pumped warm air into the hole to keep her from suffering from hypothermia.
The walls were stabilized about 7:30 pm and the woman was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries to her legs and back.
The trench was unprotected and in an area that is not well lit. Building inspectors have been called out to the area.
