It looks like the Kentucky Derby is getting a run for its money, at least locally, with the 84th running of the Virginia Gold Cup.
The annual Fauquier County running is being held Saturday and will feature six races, including a Russell Terrier run, a hat competition (of course) and over 30 vendor booths for shopping. The all-day event gets started around 10 a.m., though the first race isn't until 1:30 p.m.
If you're looking for a day at the races and can't make it to that other big show head south to Fauquier County. Their show draws crowds of up to 50,000 people.
