It's not often that a store closing gets us excited (usually such events inspire a mixture of annoyance and frustration, if not downright anger). When It's Vintage Darling's closes its doors for a week (effective today through September 6), it's for good reason: store manager Elise Peterson, easily one of the best-dressed residents of this city, (see proof here and here), will be spending the entire week on a buying binge, scouring what she calls the "state's secret spots" for one-of-a-kind seasonal vintage finds.
Peterson and her fellow IVD buyers will spend their days, morning-to-night, going to estate sales, giant thrift stores, flea markets, and her secret gems, to "flip" the store to house all fall merchandise. When you re-enter the store on September 6, every last item will be new-to-the-store (luckily the beloved "sequin" section and the $10 bargain bins will still be intact).
"This is our absolute favorite time of year," Peterson says. "Fall brings with it a fabulous array of vintage and cowboy boots, leather, various animal skin bags, scarves, classic solid and funky printed blazers, leather coats, trenches, caftans, capes, kimonos, and of course new jewelry an accessories to layer and create a more interesting and unique look."
In addition to the above-listed items, the fall flip will debut an expanded men's section with blazers, tweed, boots, wingtips, bowties/ ties, leather goods, and even more accessories.
Also of note, IVD will be launching its website and e-commerce store the first day back from the break (September 6). Peterson tells us the online shopping will be completely separate from in-store inventory, so it's basically like twice the goodies.
Be sure to check out the "flipped" store on September 6, when it resumes its regular hours of 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. To celebrate, everything will be 20 percent off. Peterson let us in on some of the designer duds you can expect to find that day, which include a "great, classic Chanel suit," an Ungaro vest, and an all-silk Missoni number.
