A piece of rock history has a new home at the National Museum of American History. The "Frank 2" guitar used by guitarist Eddie Van Halen is a replica of the original red, white and black "Frankenstein" guitar he played for more than 30 years.
Van Halen designed the "Frankenstein" himself to fit his playing style. He used the "Frank 2" during the 2007-2008 Van Halen North American tour with original lead singer David Lee Roth.
Museum director Brent Glass says the guitar reflects Van Halen's innovation, talent and influence. The guitar will be a more contemporary piece in the museum's instrument collection.
However, there are no current plans to put the guitar on public view, said a museum spokeswoman.
