Tom Cruise was abroad during Tuesday’s inauguration of President Barack Obama, but during an interview with Tim Vincent on Wednesday at the Dorchester hotel in London, the “Valkyrie” star said he watched the celebrations and was moved.
“It was extraordinary,” Tom told Tim.

Tom, who alongside his wife, Katie Holmes has met the First Family, said he sent the President a message on his big day.
“I wished him good luck,” he said.
Tom, who was in London for the UK premiere of “Valkyrie,” told Tim he has talked with his son Connor, who is African-American, about the importance of President Obama’s Inauguration.
“He absolutely recognizes the historic significance of this moment,” Tom said. “[I felt] relief, hope, inspiration, and for my son, it was beautiful.”
In addition to the new Commander In Chief taking his post, Tom also talked about another topic which recently moved him – the miracle on the Hudson. Like others, Tom said he was impressed when US Airways Captain Chesley B. Sullenberger III saved the lives of an entire flight, by landing his aircraft on the Hudson river.

“That landing was, that is incredible,” Tom, also a pilot, said. “That was incredible what he did.”
But Tom said the rumors he’s been asked to play the pilot in a film are currently just rumors.
“I’d have to see the whole thing. It’s a great sequence in a film right now, and will it be a whole film? I’ve got to see the whole story,” he said. “I really admire what he did. He is a great aviator.”
