The Weekend's Best Gallery Openings

Charlie Owens: Don't Get Caught
The Art Whino Gallery, who has paired with Brightest Young Things for their awesome new pop-up space, presents the work of street artist Charlie Owens on Saturday. Titled Don't Get Caught, the exhibit shows Owens' vibrant female forms inspired by his early days as a skateboarder and graffiti artist. Free; Opening reception is this Saturday from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Asia After Dark
The first Asia After Dark event of the year is also going down this weekend at the Freer and Sackler Galleries. A fundraiser for Japan disaster relief efforts, the party will showcase Japanese artwork and fashion (suggested attire is Harajuku clothing or kimonos) and feature a DJ set by globe-trotting turntablist Steve Aoki. Advance tickets are sold-out but $25 day-of passes will be available at the door. 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Conner Contemporary Opens Five Exhibits
Also on Saturday, Conner Contemporary Art opens five new exhibitions and installations from boundary-pushing artists like Jeremy Kost and Jeffrey Aldridge. Each of the five artists (also showing are Joe Ovelman, Jeremy Flick, and Patrick McDonough) will be in attendance. Expect provocative, sensual work that explores the tawdry side of nightlife. 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

AAC's Critique The Critics
Finally, Arlington Arts Center hosts its annual Critique The Critics, where you get to judge the artwork of local tastemakers who usually do the judging. Scenesters showing work include head Brightest Young Thing Svetlana Legetic and Pink Line Project's Phillipa Hughes, who currently has a woman living in a bubble in her apartment. Tickets are pricey ($50) but include catered food and an open bar. 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
