The 2011 Tony Nominees

Theater critics had unusually kind things to say about the state of the Tony awards today, hailing the just-announced slate of nominees as one of the strongest in years, especially regarding original plays. There were also some cheers for the snubbing of Hollywood transplants who have recently come to dominate Broadway marquees and almost single-handedly make or break a major production at the box office. But back to the winners: foul-mouthed musical satire "The Book of Mormon" received the most nominations with 14, while some theater vets outmuscled their boldfaced co-stars for recognition.
