It seems that Thai Xing, the city’s only hole-in-the-wall with a prix fixe menu, is a hole-in-the-wall no more. About a month ago, the popular Shaw spot expanded from a few tables in a rowhouse basement to the building’s first and second floors.
An employee who answered the phone but declined to be identified said that the new seating areas comprise about 30 new seats, which doubles the eatery's previous capacity. Judging from the recent expansion, we find it unlikely that a rumored move from Shaw to 9th and Florida Avenue will go forward anytime soon.
We had included Thai Xing in our roundup of tiny restaurants back in May, and while it still qualifies as itty-bitty, it's a heck of a lot bigger than it used to be. At least reservations should be easier to come by—head chef Taw Vigsittaboot had previously suggested that patrons book their reservations at least a week ahead of time.
