Military Outshines Disney When It Comes to Happy Workplaces

Let us offer you some career advice: It’s better to be a Private than Pluto; choose Major over Mickey, and you’ll be happier in charge of a tank than the teacups.

A new survey finds that the military is a better place to work than Disney. Despite long deployments and lower wages, the Army and National Guard rank first and second in career advancement. That’s according to CareerBliss, an online career-guidance tool.

The military also scored high marks in growth opportunity, benefits and job security.

"Corporate America could learn from our military’s unique programs," CareerBliss Vice President Rick Wainschel told The Christian Science Monitor. "The bottom line is that when a company provides opportunities to grow and tools to improve skills, it creates a happier work environment."

Overall, Google was named the most blissful place to work, followed by 3M. Some companies had disappointing results on the survey. Disney, for example, ranked 41st. Microsoft came in just two spots better, at 39.

So it just goes to show that Disney World may be "The Happiest Place on Earth" for its guests, but its employees may beg to differ.
