Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt will attempt to make their Mexican elopement legal on the season finale of MTV’s “The Hills,” next week. But so far, there’s little evidence that the reality stars’ marriage has in fact been made official, Access Hollywood has learned — except for the words of the stars and their network.
“We checked the confidentiality box, so good luck, people,” Spencer told Ryan Seacrest about the marriage license he says exists, in a segment for next Monday’s “On-Air With Ryan Seacrest.”

And in a statement released to Access on Wednesday, an MTV spokesperson said the scenes in the season finale do showcase a real wedding, despite some unusual circumstances.
“MTV crews captured Heidi and Spencer at the Beverly Hills Courthouse with the Deputy Commissioner who handles all civil unions. We filmed after hours at the request of the courthouse so our cameras would not inconvenience other couples getting married that day,” the spokesperson said.

The Los Angeles County Registrar’s Office confirmed to Access on Wednesday that they have no record of the couple applying for a marriage license, which would not exist if they did indeed check the confidentiality box. While the pair could have applied anywhere in California, Orange County also does not have them on record — the Associated Press reported that officials at two Orange courthouses have not received any requests from MTV to film for “The Hills.”
In a clip from the season finale of the MTV show, Heidi and Spencer appear in a Beverly Hills courtroom with Spencer’s sister, Stephanie, as witness, complete with Heidi stating, “I, Heidi, take thee, Spencer.” But the scene was shot after hours, according to the Associated Press, and was not attended by any of the court’s judges. Further, a court spokesman told the Associated Press that civil ceremonies are not performed at the courthouse in the manner depicted.
Curiously, Stephanie hasn’t even bought her brother a wedding gift.

“I’m such a bad sister!” she said in an interview on Tuesday with AccessHollywood.com. “I’ve only been concentrating on Christmas presents, I totally forgot about a wedding present!”
Still, Stephanie said, the finale will have one thing viewers can count on — drama.
“I think that’s going to be the most exciting thing this whole season by far,” she said.
