Three days after injuring his right knee, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III practiced at Redskins Park and is hopeful that he will be able to play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
“A lot better,” Griffi told reporters when asked how his sprained LCL was feeling. “It’s gotten better every day, which is a positive sign for me. Sunday night, I thought there was probably no chance that I could play the next week. Monday morning, I felt better about it. Yesterday, I felt better about it. And today, I feel really good about it. It just depends on whether I continue to progress the way that I am.”
Griffin, however, was mum regarding his status for Sunday, opting to keep it a secret.
"I can’t tell y'all that," he said. "First, I don’t want to give the Cleveland Browns a competitive advantage. And I don’t want to let anyone down. So I don’t want to say that I’ll be playing, and then end up not playing.”
Head coach Mike Shanahan provided slightly more information, saying that Griffin was "limited" in practice -- meaning he didn't take 100 percent of his normal practice reps -- but he was "impressed" with how well Griffin practiced just days after his injury.
Shanahan was also tight-lipped about Griffin's status.
“You get a chance to watch him every day in practice [so] I get a good gut feel if a guy can play or not,” Shanahan said. “You can see what he does on the practice field and how it will carry over in the game. If he can’t do it on the practice field, chances are he’s not going to be able to do it in the game. We’ll evaluate that through the week and make a decision, what’s best for him and what’s best for our football team.”
