Ripple Preps for a Messy Tomato Fight

Food fight! Well, sort of: Ripple is hosting their version of Spain's famous Tomatina Festival later this month on August 31, complete with a tomato fight and a five-course, tomato-inspired tasting menu.

Some background on the original festival: It's a massive tomato-throwing fight held each year in the Valencian town of Buñol, and it usually ends with entire neighborhoods covered in a thick tomato paste. Thankfully, there's no need to seek out a good dry cleaner for Ripple's event—the "fight" will be had by a group of performance artists at about 7:30 p.m. We would advise, however, to mind the spray.

As for dinner ($65 a person), all the produce will be sourced from The Fresh Link, a local co-op in Culpepper, VA. Guests can opt for a beverage pairing for an additional $30, which includes a tomato-water cocktail, tomato beer from Short's Brewing Company in Michigan, and wine pairings. The entertainment continues with a screening of the 1978 cult film Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, which will play in the main dining room throughout the event.
