Restaurants, Harris Teeter Coming to Yards Park

The recession threw a curveball at plans to redevelop the District's Southeast waterfront near Nationals Park, but new retail and shopping announced today signals the area is finally back on track.

The area was rundown and industrial. Then it was half-built buildings done in by the recession. Now, in the shadow of the baseball stadium, the Anacostia waterfront is getting a new face.

The Yards Park is reclaimed industrial land that features fountains, boardwalks and green space where once was only industrial waste. D.C. and Forest City Developers on Monday showed off new work on residential apartments that had been stalled during the recession, and announced a half dozen restaurants and Harris Teeter are signed and finally coming to the area in the next 12-to-24 months.

That means many more lunch and dinner options for thousands of office workers in the area.
